Qlik announces Data-as-a-Service offering Qlik DataMarket

At their channel partner conference this week, Qlik announced the introduction of their new Qlik Cloud offering comprising of several new services. Foremost of these is the introduction of Qlik DataMarket as a result of their acuisition of DataMarket back in October 2014. Qlik DataMarket will give users of their self-service business discovery product Qlik Sense access to over 100,000 publicly available and syndicated data sets from more than 200 providers. With Qlik DataMarket, Qlik Sense users will be able to easily combine their internal business data with addition data sources such as weather and stock market data. These data “mash-ups” will allow users to gain new insights into their existing business data.

“Our cloud strategy encompasses more than just an infrastructure or Software-as-a-Service play,” said Anthony Deighton, Qlik CTO and SVP of Products. “At Qlik we see an exciting opportunity for Cloud-based value-added services, like Qlik DataMarket Data-as-a-Service offering, to optimize the visual analytics experience, even at the point of decision. Likewise, because people do not make decisions alone, sharing in the cloud will always be an important part of our collaboration strategy as well.”

As well as the Qlik DataMarket, the Qlik Cloud will allow users to upload applications they have developed in Qlik Sense Desktop and share them free with up to 5 other people. Qlik Sense Cloud sharing is available immediately and Qlik DataMarket in Qlik Sense will be available in June 2015. QlikView version 12 is expected to be released in the second half of 2015 and will bring the Qlik DataMarket to QlikView users also.

“Whilst existing QlikView and Sense users can already obtain publicly available data and integrate it with their internal business data, the Qlik Market will make doing so possible for non-technical business users,” said Matt Fryer, CEO at Datoniq. “No other vendor in the business intelligence market delivers this type of data library that encompasses both free and paid data sources. The Qlik DataMarket represents yet another game-changing innovation from Qlik.”
