What’s new in QlikView 12

Second Generation QIX Engine

The second generation QIX (Qlik Data Indexing) engine was first introduced with the release of Sense and offers significant performance and security improvements over its predecessor. Its introduction into QlikView 12 means that all products in Qlik’s business discovery platform now run on the same underlying engine. This will undoubtedly benefit users by making all future updates to the QIX engine available to all products as well as making migrating or sharing data models between products much simpler.

Improved Mobile Touch Support

QlikView 12 adds a range of additional capabilities for users of mobile devices with a touch interface, including but not not limited to:

  • Creating objects
  • Moving/copying/resizing objects
  • Changing properties
  • Swiping to scroll
  • Using a long-press in place of right-clicking menu

Qlik DataMarket Connector

The Qlik DataMarket was first announced back in April at the annual channel partner conference Qonnections and brings industry leading data-as-a-service (DaaS) to the Qlik platform. With the release of QlikView 12 comes the Qlik DataMarket Connector, giving customers access to additional free and subscription based data sources such as global population demographics, weather and exchange rates. Simple and quick access to additional data allows users to bring greater context to their business data.

RESTful API Connector

The QlikView 12 RESTful API Connector brings support for an ever growing number of web services which provide a RESTful API. Now QlikView users can more easily access data from sources such as social media, content management systems and many other cloud-based services, without the need for 3rd party tools.

64-bit Only

With the exception of the Microsoft Internet Explorer Plugin and support for 32-bit datasources, QlikView 12 is now exclusively available for 64-bit versions of Windows server and desktop operating systems only.

SharePoint WebParts End-of-Life

The QlikView WebParts for Microsoft SharePoint are no longer available in QlikView 12. Support for customers using previous versions of QlikView will continue for the foreseeable future.

Upgrading from QlikView 11

Whilst the migration from QlikView 11 should be straightforward, as with all new major releases, Datoniq would advise all customers to install QlikView 12 within a test environment prior to upgrading any production servers. Please contact Datoniq support should you experience any problems.
